Myanmar

The Union of Myanmar is known as Myanmar for short, and it is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. It borders with Andaman Sea on the southwest, neighbors with India and Bangladesh on the northwest, close to China on the northeast and adjacent to Thailand and Laos on the southeast. The capital is Nay than.

Myanmar is an ancient civilization country with a long history and it formerly known as the Hungarian bottom. In 1044 a unified country was formed and then it experienced  three feudal dynasties including Bagan, Dongwu and Gongbang. Between 1824 and 1885 Britain launched three invasions of Burma and occupied Myanmar, and in 1886 the United Kingdom classified it as a British Indian province.

On January 4, 1948 Myanmar declared its independence from the Commonwealth and established the Union of Myanmar. In 1974 January it was renamed the Union of Myanmar Socialist Republic. In 1988 July, the worsened economic situation led to the outbreak of demonstrations in Burma. On September 18 of the same year, Minister of Defense General Su-General led the army to take over the regime, and established "National Recovery Law and Order Committee" (renamed the "Myanmar State Peace and Development Committee" in 1997), and announced the abolition of the Constitution as well as the dissolution of the People's Assembly and State authority. On September 23, 1988, the country’s name was changed from the "Union of Myanmar Socialist Republic" to "Union of Myanmar." In May 2008, the new Constitution of the Union Republic of Myanmar was adopted, with the implementation of the presidential system. In 2010 Myanmar carried out multi-party national elections under the new Constitution. On February 4, 2011, the Myanmar Congress elected Wu Dengsheng as Myanmar's first president. On March 15, 2016, the Myanmar Federal Assembly elected Wu Tingjue as Myanmar's first elected non-military president for more than half a century.

In 2005, the Government of Myanmar moved the capital from Yangon, the largest city, to Naypyidaw (formerly known as Pimana). Myanmar is a agriculture-dominant country with more than 60 per cent of the population being engaged in agriculture. Its agricultural products include rice, wheat, sugar cane and so on.
